Acupuncture improves bodily functions and promotes self-healing by utilizing very fine, sterile needles to stimulate points located on the superficial layer of the skin.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture works by balancing the yin and yang in our bodies and enhancing the flow of energy or ‘qi’. Various organ meridians or pathways flow through the body, which can become obstructed due to excessive cold, wind, dampness, dryness, fire (heat), or negative emotions. This obstruction can result in pain, organ dysfunction, and disease. Acupuncture aids in clearing these blockages, enhancing energy flow within and between organs, and harmonizing the entire body.
Clinical studies have shown that acupuncture stimulates the release of endorphins, met-enkephalin, substance P, serotonin, and dopamine, which reduce the body’s perception of pain and emotional response. In addition, acupuncture can alleviate muscle tension, promote blood flow, and expedite healing.
